I’ve posted before about dog-friendly summer hikes, but there are even MORE options for puppy playtime in the winter!
Before heading out, remember that leashes are required in most areas, and we aren’t the only ones that feel the cold – investing in some paw wax or booties and maybe a coat or sweater for the less protected pups will make your outing that much more fun for both of you!
Cross Country or Skate Skis:
Devil’s Thumb Ranch, Snow Mountain Ranch and the Grand Lake Nordic Center all groom dog friendly trails, and DTR even offers Skijoring lessons for you and your furry pal. This is a great way to work out some extra canine energy, and maybe meet some new friends along the way!
Snowshoes:
Monarch Lake (behind Lake Granby on the way to Grand Lake) is beautifull and fun to explore year-round, but in the winter snowshoeing right on the lake can be exciting, if you aren’t up for the full 4 mile loop around.
Or maybe you want to try the Discovery Loops, located just across the highway from the entrance to Winter Park Resort. There are a few trails that start from the trailhead there so you can choose your distance and difficulty.
*If you choose to head out to your favorite hiking trail, be sure to check for dog-friendliness – RMNP doesn’t allow dogs in any part of the park.
