If you are still living in your home when it is up for sale, I recommend hiding your medications, jewelry, and any other valuables in your home – especially small ones that could be tucked in a pocket.
If you have a safe, that’s ideal, but if not, a shoebox in the back of your closet or even tucked away in your crockpot on the top shelf in your kitchen will work. Most thieves touring homes are opportunists looking for an easy score and aren’t going to have the time or ability to do a thorough search.
This is one reason it is good to have a real estate agent handle the sale of your home instead of doing it yourself. Showings have to be scheduled and buyers are always accompanied by an agent, rather than any person off the street that saw the ‘For Sale by Owner’ sign in your yard stopping by for a look-see.
